Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy, it is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing, This tradition was founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication. Reiki means “universal life force energy”.
We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flow is uninterrupted there is balance & harmony within & around us, we can experience a sense of well being.
There are many variations of Reiki, but in essence Reiki treatments can help the body emotionally or spiritually. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system.
Reiki treatment is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of their life. It can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatment and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery.
Reiki is a light-contact healing treatment which promotes healing and relaxation in the body, the therapy uses traditional hand movements, hand-positioning and targeted hand-resting with minimal pressure on or slightly above the body.
By engaging in a deeply relaxing process, individuals will experience feelings of peace, clarity & overall improved well being. It is a natural, safe and gentle practice which treats the individual body, emotions, mind & spirit.
Reiki is complementary to medical treatments and can help reduce healing time, stress and negative side effects. The proactive approach to healing through reiki can create optimism and give a feeling of power during a period of medical treatment.
Multiple sessions may be required to treat long-term conditions however one to two sessions can help significantly help with stress reduction.
The practice is taught by Reiki masters / teachers who have trained in the tradition passed on in person from master to student.
The Treatment
The method of receiving Reiki is simple.
Reiki sessions are non-invasive where the individual lies down, fully clothed in a warm room, often on a massage or padded table.
I gently places my hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation and the whole person is treated rather than specific areas.
Sessions can take 45 minutes to an hour-and-a-half, depending on the client’s needs.
As with all my treatments Reiki practitioners are not trained in diagnosis and will not predict any specific outcome from treatment. If people are concerned about their symptoms they should see a doctor.
